National League South: Torquay United 0-3 Taunton Town

The Peacocks secured their second successive victory on the road in the Vanarama National League South with a stunning 3-0 win at Torquay United on Tuesday (March 12) night.

Three points in this match has taken Taunton up to 18th place in the league table and looking much safer from relegation.

They now have 40 points and are six clear of the relegation places, and the Peacocks still have upwards of six games in hand on teams around them.

In the match at Plainmoor, the three points were fully deserved following an excellent performance that showed grit and determination from the whole squad.

Seb Bolton was rewarded with another start after getting his first club goal last time out, he partnered Nat Jarvis up front and the pair had a very solid game.

Jarvis in fact opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Lloyd James picked him out in the box with a swift pass before he turned his man and slotted the ball past Mark Halstead to finish off a well worked move.

It made two goals from the last two games for Jarvis and is just reward for the striker who has grinded all season.

The Peacocks then hit Torquay quickly for the second goal as Cameron Evans flicked a header home at the near post from Zac Bell’s long throw just four minutes later.

This goal was very similar to one from the match at Worthing as the Bell long throw worked again, it has been a set piece that Taunton have implemented for some weeks now and it is starting to provide goals.

The score was 0-2 at the break to Taunton Town and Torquay looked shell shocked in front of their home fans.

In the second period Dan Ball was shown the first yellow card of the evening for a heavy challenge before Ross Stearn was subbed on for Bolton on 57 minutes.

Stearn who had only been on the pitch for three minutes then picked up a clearance on the hour to drill home a beauty from 25-yards to put the Peacocks out of sight at 3-0.

On 68 minutes, the Torquay striker connected hard with Dan Lavercombe and then the post and both players received physio attention which luckily was all they required.

Shortly afterwards, Lavercombe was shown a yellow card for time wasting while the Peacocks were three goals up.

It could have been more when Ollie Chamberlain struck the bar in the final ten minutes, with the Gulls offering little threat in response.

Victory lifted Town out of the relegation zone into 18th spot and for the 90 travelling Taunton fans, it was a great evening spent in Devon.

Now fingers crossed that the weather behaves to allow Thursday’s home game with Weston-super-Mare to go ahead where a large home crowd at Wordsworth Drive is expected.
