TAUNTON Town's defeat at the weekend away at Eastbourne Borough saw the side drop back down to 20th place in the National League South.

It was a defeat made tougher after the Peacocks enjoyed a good run of two wins in the week prior.

Taunton Town's head of football Rob Dray expressed his frustration after the defeat and has said that going forward, his side have to be better.

"We cant be mediocre, it has got to matter more, regardless of who, when and how, it doesn't matter, we have got to be better," he said.

Speaking on the game itself, he said: "I think it was a game of two sides in a relegation battle and we had two chances that we had to take that would have made a difference.

"We were mediocre and looked a little bit jaded, but there is no excuses, we need to be that team that beat Torquay and beat Worthing.

"We just need to be better all over, we made some crazy decisions some times, it was always going to be a 1-0 close game. One of those games we certainly should have done better in."

He added that going forward for the remainder of the season: "We've got to keep and get our levels higher all over the pitch in a lot of ways."

Taunton have another busy week this week taking on Chippenham on Wednesday night (March 20) and then Chelmsford City on Saturday (March 23).

At the time of writing the Chippenham match is yet to be played, but it is a must win game, as they all are.

Ahead of the two home fixtures this week, Dray said to get back on winning track, Taunton need to emulate their performance levels from the Torquay game, and if that is done, he is confident the Peacocks will remain in the National League South.

"We have to replicate our performances and energy levels of the two performances of the two games before (Torquay and Worthing) and we will be fine," he said.

"Long way to go though, still twelve games to go, so still a lot of football to be played, 36 points to play for for us."

At the weekend, Taunton Town host Chelmsford City at 3pm at Wordsworth Drive on what is National League Day and also a TTFC Former Players Day.

A large crowd is expected and in truth needed to help the club off the pitch and on it on Saturday.

To help with that, there is a FREE child ticket (with one paying adult) giveaway inside the County Gazette this week.

Grab your copy of the paper on Thursday morning to get the voucher and claim the offer at the football match this weekend.
