FAST bowler Jake Ball, who has joined the Cidermen from Nottinghamshire, is looking to add a championship winner's medal to his personal collection, writes Richard Walsh.

The 33-year-old made his debut for Notts in 2011. Since then, he has gone onto help his home county win the T20 and the One Day Cup as well as appearing in four Test Matches 18 One Day Internationals and two IT20s, but he has never won the championship.

However, having spent the winter with Somerset, the former England man reckons that the squad that's now in place is capable of lifting that elusive championship.

“There is an exciting group of players here with a lot of youngsters who can go all the way over the next two or three years which is great for the club and for me,” he said.

“We have been to Abu Dhabi which was a really good trip and it was great to involved with everyone a bit more and see some of the younger lads in action. The future looks really bright for Somerset because we have got a lot of good young bowlers and batters coming through.

“I’ve won a T20 and a One Day Cup and now I have come here I’d like to complete the set and win a championship with Somerset. I think we have got a great opportunity over the next two or three years, once these young lads get a bit more experience under their belts.

“I have had my injuries over the last few years but they are hopefully behind me now and I’m looking forward. The body feels good and I’m bowling well and hopefully I can perform out on the pitch and show people what I can do again.

“Over the last few years I seem to have played a lot of T20 cricket and winning that last year we will be looking to add to it and I know what that's all about and have won it twice with Notts and so know how much that means to people.

“Since 2015 I’ve been pulled away with England and haven’t had a full run at a season so I'm really looking forward to the start knowing hopefully that if I stay injury free I will have a full season.

“I haven’t played too much first class cricket so I’d like to add to that- I still feel fit and hopefully I can a lot more wickets to those stats.”

“Another nice thing for me is getting to know the younger lads and hopefully pass on a bit of my experience and the values that I have got and hopefully playing a small part in their journey.”

Where does he see himself fitting into the attack?

“I’d like to take the new ball but Id be happy to play any role that's wanted and happy to be out on the field playing cricket again.”

Jake added: “I know how much cricket means to people in Somerset, and this is an an ambitious county which means a lot to me and the reason I came here. The way the club’s going over the next couple of years we are going to be challenging for championships and I want to be a part of that.”
