A career best 182 from George Thomas one of Somerset’s brightest young prospects was the highlight of Taunton St Andrews’ victory over Bridgwater in Prem One of the WEPL at the Parks on Saturday afternoon.

The 20 year old opened the innings and over the course on the first 35 overs he dominated proceedings. The former Somerset Academy youngster occupied the crease for two and a half hours, faced 107 balls and hit 12 fours and an amazing 16 sixes before he was out by which time he had moved the score onto 264  for five.

During the course of his hugely impressive innings the Somerset starlet shared a fourth wickets partnership of 119 with Thomas Rew who made 28  and 69 for the fifth wicket James Matravers who made 17.

Later in the innings Toby Williams-Thomas made 22 as Saints ended their innings on 301 for eight.

For the home side Luke Pearson-Taylor claimed six wickets for 59  from his eight overs.

When Bridgwater replied they were bowled out for 211 in 34.3 overs, giving Saint Andrews victory by 90 runs, leg spinner Will Christophers ended with four for 63 from his eight overs.

In the Premier Division of the Somerset League the Saints Second were at home to Butleigh and after choosing to bat posted 220 for eight from their 40 overs, Dan Godfrey hitting 64 from 43 balls with eight fours and two sixes, while Martin Jenkins made 37, Ben Mason 34 and Jordan Clapp 31. For the visitors Robbie Growdon took four for 15.

In reply Butleigh reached 224 for seven in 37.5 overs, Ryan Church making an unbeaten 57 and Dan Carter 42. For the Saints Shourya Raj took four for 33.

In Division Seven Saints B XI were in action against Staplegrove Seconds away where batting first the visitors bowled out for 180 in 39.5 overs, of which Nigel Contreras top scored with 39 and Julian Webster made 35. Luca Greaves was the pic f the Grove bowlers taking three for 44.

In reply the hosts reached 184 for eight in 39.1 overs, Matt Dunn carrying his bat to end unbeaten on 82 while Simon Wood made 28.

Leo Contreras with three for 40 was the pick of the Saints attack.
