On the third day of Somerset’s championship match against Surrey, The Old Blundellians hosted a lunch in the OB Box at the Cooper Associates County Ground to mark the 45th anniversary of Somerset winning their first ever trophy, which they did on September 8th 1979 when they beat Northamptonshire by 45 runs at Lord’s in the Gillette Cup Final.

Three members of Somerset’s winning team that day attended the lunch - captain Brian Rose, pictured front right, Graham Burgess and Vic Marks along with Peter Robinson who was the first team coach at the time. Somerset chief executive Jamie Cox pictured far left was an invited guest.

Following a most enjoyable lunch the three 1979  Gillette Cup winners and Peter Robinson  shared some of their memories from that never to be forgotten day, much to the delight of all of those present. Jamie Cox who in 2001 captained Somerset to the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy and to runners up spot in the championship and took over as chief executive earlier this summer , talked about his return to Somerset and some of the current developments in the game.
