Taunton and PIckeridge Golf Club hosted the PEG Smith Open on Sunday a 36 hole Somerset Golf Union Order of Merit competition that attracted a full field with entrants from as far afield as St Mellion and Worcester.
Played in windy and wet conditions the leaders after round one with gross 68 were Jamie Short (Oake Manor) Curtis Edwards (T&P) and Andrew Isaac (Long Sutton).
In round two Jamie Short fell away but Andrew Isaac with a gross 70 held onto the lead and won by one shot and retain the trophy with a par score of 138.
The Nett winner was Oliver Tripp (Worlebury) with 141.
Rich Allen with 39 points was the winner in the top division of the RAFA Trophy at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club on Saturday. Two players returned with 37 points but following countback it was James Poole who was second ahead of Shane Pulling who was third.
Division Two was headed by Martin Short with 37 points. However three players tied on 36 points so again it was countback that sorted out the nest few placings after which it was Karl Drummond who was second, Billy Rooney was third and Chris Maggs fourth.
Peter Dossett was the clear winner in the third division with 40 points, four clear of Keith Glaister who came second after countback put him in front of Ian Smith after both scored 36.
The Golf Club Medal on September 18 was won by Brian Trickey with 66 five clear of Paddy Farrell who was second on 71. Two players returned with 72 but after countback it was Paul Parnham who was third just ahead of Kevin Gidley who was fourth.
Chris Coxon with 37 points was the winner of the Stableford last week, four ahead of second placed Mike Spencer who returned with 33. Two players scored 32 points but after countback it was Kevin Gidley who was third just ahead of Wayne Trunks who was fourth.
T&P Juniors were in action on Saturday in the final match of the season in The Somerset Junior Golf South Division league. They were competing against Wheathill, Yeovil and Long Sutton at Wheathill GC.
Going into this final match T&P were sitting one point behind the leaders, Wheathill, on 25 points. Despite scoring brilliantly in the Cat 1 (handicaps from 0-18.4) with a first, fourth and fifth place and picking up another point in the Cat 2 (18.5-36.4) T&P were unable overtake Wheathill who scored 12 points to T&P’s meaning that the host club finished with 38 points to T&Ps 35.
Long Sutton were third, closely followed by Yeovil.
Wheathill go forward as South Division winners to play off against Burnham & Berrow who were the North Division winners.
