Higgs on Horses at Taunton Racecourse
Taunton raced on Tuesday in excellent weather with seven races and some real ‘feel good’ results. All of the aforementioned resulted in an excellent crowd and a great atmosphere.
It started with the Racing To School Blundell’s Preparatory School Novices’ Hurdle, this is a great initiative and the children love coming to the races. It was a thrilling race with Dance And Glance just prevailing by a neck for the Anthony Honeyball team under a stalking ride from Rex Dingle.
The Par Inn Mares Handicap Hurdle was next and an easy win for trainer Jeremy Scott and jockey Lorcan Williams with Elusiveness (pictured).
If you haven’t heard already - the combination were successful with Golden Ace in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and the horse will be parading at Taunton on April 9.
A race will be named in her honour - The 'Who Dares Wins” Novice Hurdle, aptly named for those who know the story, if you don’t then go along on the day to find out..
Mr Zee entered the winner’s enclosure next making it a double on the day for jockey Rex Dingle and bettering his third place last time at the track.
Time To Bite then backed up his recent Exeter success by winning the Deb And Wendy’s 60th Celebrations Chase, much to the delight of his owners and making it two wins from just three runners in the last fortnight for the trainer.
It was then time for the Maundy Thursday Evening Meeting April 17 Handicap Hurdle and a win for Don’t Wind Me Up and the Philip Hobbs & Johnson White team, his owners turned up in the droves and they possibly broke the record for the ‘most owners on the Winners Podium’ at the racecourse (pictured).
The horse returned at 15/2 and for the regular readers of this column you cannot say I haven’t been harping on about this combination all season as one’s to follow at the track. They are now 10 wins from 25 runners this season and showing a healthy level stake profit.
Bobbi’s Beauty won the Mares’ Chase for Martin Keighley and Sean Bowen and finally Act Of Innocence took the Bumper for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He dominated from the front and looks a really nice prospect and certainly one to follow.
Along with all of the above we welcomed Paddy Kenneally to celebrate his 93rd Birthday. He rode Cillas Cottage to win at the track in 1955 and it was a delight to see him and his family reminisce and enjoy their day.
