Taunton Town drew with Uxbridge in Southern League

The spoils were shared when Taunton Town visited Uxbridge for their Southern League Premier South fixture on Saturday (September 6).

All the goals were scored in the first half at Honeycroft with Taunton racing into the lead early on and then having to come back from 2-1 down to salvage a point.

Following the Peacocks’ 4-3 success against Tiverton Town in the FA Cup, manager Richard Luffman made four changes with Niall Thompson, new signing Nat Williams, Jack Rice and Owen Brain coming in for Brodie Montague, Tom Purrington, Kane Simpson and Jake Towns.

It took Taunton just 16 minutes to take the lead in the capital as Alfie Moulden took full advantage to steal in and score a rare header.

However, the advantage lasted just five minutes before the hosts equalised and shortly after, Nick Grimes unfortunately put through his own net to give the London side the lead.

But before half time, Jack Rice scored the equaliser – his first goal since returning from a long term injury.

The second half failed to produce much action at either end but Uxbridge will feel hard done by as they hit the woodwork twice as they looked to win the game.

Next up for the Peacocks is a home match with Weymouth on Wednesday (September 10) in the league. The Terras were relegated from National League South last season and have won just once in six games this season and the team has changed managers since the start of the season with Steve Claridge now leading the side. Kick off at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium will be 7.45pm.

iIts on to FA Cup matters on Saturday (September 13) as Taunton Town welcome fellow Somerset side Weston-super-Mare to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium in the second qualifying round.

The two sides are fairly familiar to each other as they were both in National League South together in 2023-24 before the Peacocks were relegated. The two sides also clashed in the Somerset Premier Cup last season with the Seagulls coming out on top against the Peacocks. Weston are in good form this season, having won six in a row in the league and find themselves second in National League South.

Kick off on Saturday will be at 3pm.
