Southern League Premier South: Dorchester Town 1-4 Taunton Town
Taunton Town bounced right back from their 4-0 defeat at Farnham Town at the weekend with a midweek victory over Dorchester Town.
The Peacocks put four goals past the Dorset side with Kane Simpson adding two to his tally, Kelvin Lubombo-Kalala scored his first goal for the club and Jack Rice rounded it off with a volley.
Following the defeat to Farnham Town three days earlier, manager Richard Luffman made three changes to the starting XI with Jacob Hodgson, Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala and Alfie Moulden coming in for Austen Booth, Josh Owers and Joe Hatch.
The Dorchester side featured former Taunton Town captain Tom Smith who could have given his side the lead on nine minutes, but Hodgson was on hand to block his former team mate.
Five minutes later, Frankie Phillips was called into acting to stop an effort by Joe Parker.
On 32 minutes though, Taunton Town took the lead as a lofted pass found Kane Simpson in behind and the Dorchester goalkeeper could only get a hand on it as it travelled into the goal.
Dorchester responded well testing Phillips and there were also home claims for a penalty but the referee did not agree.
Tom Smith had another attempt for the home side in first half stoppage time, but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
It took the Peacocks only three minutes in the second half to double their lead though as Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala scored his first goal in claret and blue.
Less than 60 seconds later, Kane Simpson had his second and Taunton’s third as the striker rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home.
Town were 4-0 up by the hour mark as an Owen Brain cross was met at the back post by Jack Rice who volleyed home.
Dorchester Town grabbed a consolation goal in stoppage time but it was Taunton who took all three points, leaving them in sixth place, just four points off the top of the table.
The Peacocks are without a fixture this weekend as the FA Cup takes centre stage but Taunton have discovered who they will face in the FA Trophy. They will travel to Hampshire to face Isthmian South Central side AFC Portchester on October 4 in the third qualifying round.
