Departing allrounder Ben Green has said it was ‘an honour’ to represent Somerset as he departs the club this winter.
Green, who was a vital part of the sides that won the 2023 and 2025 Vitality Blasts, will head to Leicestershire from next season.
In an interview with Somerset County Cricket Club’s media, Green said his career has panned out quite differently to what he expected as a young cricketer.
“Young Ben Green when he started at Somerset was an opening Batter in red ball cricket so its certainly taken a bit of a turn,” said Green.
He paid tribute to the fans, the coaching staff and his team mates. Adding: “There’s so many people that contribute to this club being so special – the supporters the most supportive bunch in the country.

“The coaching staff have created an environment that has been absolutely enjoyable the whole time I’ve been here. They’ve pushed us to be the team we are today.
“The players – there’s some incredibly talented players at this club and I’m certainly going to miss being in that changing room.”
Ben said being from the south west makes the connection with the club even more special. He added: “I have incredibly fond memories of being a youngster coming up to see Cameron White and Marcus Tresgothick.
“It’s my home, I love it here and that success is even more sweeter.”
Ben Green became a vital part of the Somerset squad but particularly in white ball cricket. So how does red ball hopeful when he started become a white ball specialist?
“I always quite liked smacking it,” he said. “I’ve always prided myself on being a good thinking cricketer and I think that plays to my advantage in the bowling of white ball cricket.”
Green said he felt 2023 was the most successful year of his time at Somerset, coming second in the wicket taking rankings in the Vitality Blast only to Matt Henry.
He said: “Certainly, from a statistics point of view, its was my most successful year and coincided with a lot of other players being incredibly successful and lifting a trophy which is what we all play for.”
Green said one of his fondest memories was making his first-class debut as an opening batsman alongside Tresgothick but also said winning two Vitality Blast trophies and an innings of 157 were moments he was proud of.
Speaking about the fans, Green said: “It’s an absolute honour (to play for Somerset). It (the fans) makes it very easy to play here.”
