Southern League Premier South: Taunton Town 1-1 Dorchester Town

The Peacocks brough their losing streak to an end on Wednesday (November 26) but are still searching for an elusive victory.

Taunton Town drew 1-1 against Dorchester Town at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium extending their run without a win to four games but stopping their run of three defeats on the spin.

Manager Richard Luffman made three changes from the side that lost to Berkhamsted at home last time out, with Jack Rice, Toby Stephens and Alfie Moulden coming in for Niall Thompson, Matt Carson and Owen Brain.

Among the Dorchester Town starting XI was former Peacocks captain Tom Smith.

After a even start, it was Taunton Town who had the best opportunity on 17 minutes but Jack Rice’s effort flew over the bar.

Five minutes later, Jamie Richards had to block a shot at the near post from Wayne Robinson. Then on 28 minutes Callum Murray tested the reflexes of Frankie Phillips and on the rebound was fouled.

Less than 60 seconds later the ball was flicked towards goal by Smith but went harmlessly wide.

On 33 minutes, Taunton Town had the lead as Ben Seymour turned and tucked the ball into the net.

Just as half time was looming through, their former captain came back to haunt them as Tom Smith scored.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Dorchester Town were reduced to 10 men as Robinson was sent off for a late challenge on Josh Owers.

The two sides went into the break on level terms.

Four minutes into the second half and it was the 10-men of Dorchester Town that had the first chance, but a free header went over the bar from a corner.

On 58 minutes Taunton Town had the ball in the back of the net, but the officials ruled it out for offside.

A double substitution saw Owen Brain and Niall Thompson brought on and Brain nearly made an instant impact on 66 minutes but his effort was gathered by the goalkeeper.

On 69 minutes the ball was in the Dorchester Town net but again was ruled out.

Taunton Town were well on top now and on 73 minutes Owen Brain had a big chance as he got the ball on his left foot, hit a shot, but the goalkeeper saved it.

With 10 minutes to go, Alfie Moulden got up off the floor after being fouled to hit a free kick which the goalkeeper failed to hold but the away side cleared the ball away.

In stoppage time Brain was again denied by the goalkeeper and Seidou Sanogo headed over the bar.

Taunton Town’s game away at Hungerford Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday (November 29) meaning their next fixture will be back at the Cygnet against Bracknell Town on December 6.
