Fin Hill is settling into his first winter back in Taunton after signing a two-year contract following his graduation from the Academy in the autumn of 2024.
Last summer, the 19-year-old from Exeter, who joined the Somerset Academy in 2021, enjoyed his best season to date.
"I was definitely pretty pleased with the way that things went for me.
"I played in seven of the Metro Bank games and scored two 50s.
"I had an unbeaten 57 against Lancashire in front of a good crowd here in Taunton, and then I got another away at Sussex, which was all that I could have hoped for really.
"This has been my first year on a contract, and I have just been working hard to see where things can take me, and towards the end of the season I was starting to feel pretty happy about the way things were, and I was contributing towards the team.
"Now Im just focussing on next season to be honest and not trying to look too far ahead."
This winter, Fin has remained back in Taunton, in contrast to last winter when he spent the closed season playing cricket in Australia for Eastern Suburbs.
"Australia is a great place, and I loved the people and the culture there.
"I got some good cricket out of the trip and managed to get a few decent scores.
"This winter is a bit different, but I don’t mind putting in the work.
"It's not quite the same as being out in the sunshine, but there is a good atmosphere about the place and a great camaraderie among those of us who are here.
"I am going to carry on working on my batting and bowling, focussing on how I can get that little bit better.
"I'm hitting a lot of balls this winter and to try and get to the next level and that is playing first team cricket in all formats, which I'd love to be doing.
"I'm trying not to look too far ahead.
"I'm just focussing on my game, training and working hard and hopefully good results will come.
"When the opportunity comes along I will grab it!"
Last week, Fin went out to spend time at a local school.
"I always enjoy going into schools, so when the opportunity came along I went along.
"I did a Q&A session, signed a few things, and then went out and ran a cricket session out on the play ground.
"It was a nice thing to do. They all enjoyed is, and so did I, so hopefully there might be some more."
