Yate Town 1-2 Taunton Town: Back to winning ways for Taunton

Taunton Town fans got the perfect Christmas present in the Peacocks’ last fixture before the big day as they came from behind to end their poor run of form.

Going into this fixture, the club had not won in six and their manager Richard Luffman had resigned his position.

Captain Nick Grimes and club legend Lloyd Irish have stepped into the void on a caretaker basis and guided the side to a 2-1 win on the road.

The caretakers made three changes to the starting XI from the defeat at Evesham United, with Josh Owers, Matty Carson and Scott Robinson returning to the starting XI for Tom English, Noah Rubio and Chris Zebroski.

It was the Peacocks who created the first opportunity, as Ben Seymour flicked the ball on at the near post, but Robinson couldn’t get it out from between his feet.

The hosts did come close to opening the scoring on the half hour mark as a free header looked to have beaten Frankie Phillips but a Taunton players headed the ball off the line.

A couple minutes later, Alex Monks had a strike at goal for yate but it went over the bar.

The hosts did take the lead however on 36 minutes as Lucas Tomlinson found space and beat Phillips into the left corner.

But in the second minute of stoppage time, Scott Robinson, making his first start for the club, headed home from a Niall Thomspon cross.

The scores were level at half time but Robinson doubled his tally on 56 minutes to complete the turn around for Taunton Town.

Yate Town pushed hard for an equaliser but the likes of Tom Purrington and Jamie Richards were putting in blocks to frustrate them.

The Peacocks saw out the 2-1 win, bringing to an end a run of six without a win.

The result pulls Taunton Town away from the drop zone and just a point behind the team they beat on Saturday.
