Somerset CCC has announced that Shoaib Bashir has elected to leave Taunton, despite being offered a contract extension by the club.
The 22-year-old joined Somerset ahead of the 2023 season, and in that time featured in 23 matches for the club across the three formats, taking 21 wickets.

He has also become a regular for England during his time in Taunton. In July, he became the youngest England spinner to take a five-wicket haul at home, achieving figures of 5/41 against the West Indies.
Bashir was overlooked in England's disastrous Ashes series, which they lost 4-1. He was included in the squad for the final test match in Sydney, but did not end up playing, despite going into the series as England's first-choice spinner.
Somerset CCC director of cricket, Andy Hurry has thanked Shoaib for his contribution to the club.
He said: “Although he was offered a contract extension, Shoaib has decided that his future lies away from the Cooper Associates County Ground. We respect his decision, and everyone associated with Somerset wishes him well for the future.
“It’s been a pleasure to see him develop into an international cricketer during his time with the Club, and he will always receive a warm welcome when he returns to Taunton.”
Shoaib Bashir has decided to join Derbyshire CCC from the 2026 season.
