The members committee of the Weston Super Mare SCCC Area held a social evening at the Red Cow in Brent Knoll that was attended by over 40 people, who were delighted to get together to chat about cricket in the depths of winter.
The guest speakers for the evening were Somerset’s two captains, Sophie Luff, who hails from nearby Lympsham, and Lewis Gregory, who is enjoying a well-deserved testimonial in 2026.
Former Somerset captain Brian Rose, who led the county to five one-day trophies in as many seasons during a period known as the Glory Years, was also a special guest at the evening.
A draw and an auction of items was held during the evening, with the proceeds going to Lewis’ testimonial fund.
The evening finished with Lympsham & Belvedere CC being presented with a bag of cricket kit for their youth teams.
The money came from the old Weston Area Committee, and the kit was supplied by Somerset County Sports.
Stephen Southwell, who organised the event on behalf of the (MemCom), said: “The evening was a great success, and it was good to catch up and talk about Somerset cricket and the new season, which isn’t too far away now."
