The chairman of Wellington AFC, Mike Hall, has paid tribute to first-team manager Richard Cherry, who has stepped down for personal reasons.
Richard was appointed to take over from Tim Legg and Alex Pope three years ago and led the side to 15th position last season as they secured their place in the Jewson Western League's premier division for 2026-27.
Mike said: "We are so sorry to lose Richard, but due to personal reasons, he is unable to commit himself fully to the role moving forward and we completely understand and accept that.
"Richard is a wonderful manager and coach and a joy to work with and I would personally like to thank him for his commitment, friendship, and support over the last three seasons.
"It has been great to see our players, particularly the younger ones, develop during his time in charge.
"Richard will be greatly missed but will always be assured of a warm welcome at Wellington AFC and we wish him all the best for the future."
Richard said it had been "a privilege and a hugely enjoyable job" to manage the first team.
"I believe we have produced some great moments over the past three seasons and a few firsts in that time – in the FA Cup and other competitions.
"To upset the league leaders (Torpoint Athletic) on the last day of the season with a fantastic performance and four goals will stay with me.
"A big thank you for the personal support from our chairman, Mike Hall, and his son, Rob, who tirelessly helped me trying to push forward.
"The players' heart and application were fantastic throughout my time in charge and need a special mention.
"There are a number of personal reasons why it’s the right time for me to step away, but I wish the club huge success and, of course, I will always be checking for their results on a Saturday afternoon."
