Southern League Premier South: Uxbridge 5-4 Taunton Town

Taunton Town were involved in a nine-goal thriller on Saturday (August 22) but eventually lost to Uxbridge.

The Peacocks had been on a run of two straight wins at home and looked to continue that momentum at Uxbridge who had started the season undefeated.

Manager Gary Johnson named an unchanged starting XI from the side that beat Berkhamsted 2-1 at Wordsworth Drive a week prior.

It was the home side that took the lead just five minutes into the game as confusion reigned at the back for Taunton and the home side were able to take advantage making it 1-0.

It took the Peacocks just two minutes to level the scores though as Scott Robinson bundled the ball in from a low cross into the box.

Town could have taken the lead on 17 minutes as a low cross found the feet of Jack Rice but he was unable to convert.

On 32 minutes, Freddie Godden produced a good save to deny the home side and four minutes later Scott Robinson at the other end connected with a header which just missed the target.

Then on the stroke of half time, Uxbridge took the lead after a penalty was awarded.

Godden saved it with his feet, but the ball was scrambled over the line.

The score remained 2-1 at half time.

The home side took just 10 minutes to extend their lead as a low shot bobbled in off the wrists of Godden.

From this point on, Taunton were never level in the game again.

The Peacocks did find a way back into the game however as another low cross – this time from Ben Seymour – found Jay Murray and after his effort was saved Robinson hammered the ball into the goal.

On 73 minutes Alfie Moulden went close to an equaliser for Town, as he hit one from the edge of the area.

But three minutes later it was 4-2.

Johnson rung the changes for Taunton as they looked for a way back into the game but Uxbridge scored a fifth on 89 minutes.

But within 60 seconds Alfie Moulden has given the travelling fans some hope.

Then five minutes into stoppage time captain Jamie Richards headed in Taunton’s fourth.

But the Peacocks ran out of time to equalise.

Taunton Town have now won two on the spin at home but lost both away games.
