Southern League Premier South – Yate Town 1-4 Taunton Town

Taunton Town made it two wins from two over the bank holiday weekend when they put four past Yate Town on Monday (August 31).

Following a thrilling 4-3 win over Basingstoke Town at the weekend, the Peacocks headed to Yate hoping to put right their away form which had seen them lose the first two on the road this season.

They did that emphatically and can now focus on the FA Cup qualifier at home on Saturday (September 5).

Manager Gary Johnson named another unchanged starting XI but striker Dan Koita did return from suspension to take a place on the bench.

Taunton had the first chance of the game, as he hit one from the edge of the area on three minutes, but the Yate goalkeeper was equal to it.

But three minutes later, Seymour did get his goal as he capitalised on a flick on from Scott Robinson to curl past the goalkeeper.

The Yate Town team featured a couple of former Peacocks and on 17 minutes, one of them – Marcus Day – had a long range shot which went over the bar.

Taunton Town extended their lead though on 29 minutes as Robinson got on the end of an Alfie Moulden cross to score his fourth of the season.

And three minutes later Jack Rice joined him on four goals for the season as he capitalised on Moulden’s shot being blocked to score Taunton’s third.

Yate Town pulled a goal back before the break leaving the score 3-1 at half time.

The lead could have been extended four minutes into the second half but Seymour’s effort was wide from 18 yards out.

Six minutes later, another former Taunton Town player Joe Guest headed over the bar as the hosts looked for a way back into the game.

On the hour mark, Alfie Moulden hit one from range, but it never troubled the goalkeeper.

Then a couple of minutes later, Dylan Jones hit one towards goal but the Yate stopper gathered.

Taunton Town had a free kick in a dangerous area on 75 minutes, but Rice couldn’t add to his tally.

Dan Koita made his return to the team as a substitute on 83 minutes as a replacement for Ben Seymour and on the stroke of full time, he scored after latching onto a Niall Thompson cross to lob the goalkeeper.

At full time it was 4-1 to Taunton Town, moving them up to fifth in the early weeks of the season.
