Wellington AFC suffered a 4-0 defeat at Liskeard Athletic after conceding twice in each half.

The result on Saturday, October 10, extended a difficult run for the Tangerines, who were playing their third match in eight days against a top-five side.

Liskeard created the better attacking chances throughout, but the visitors defended with determination.

Jack Lewis made several important interventions, while goalkeeper Luke Vernon made a string of saves, including a penalty.

Wellington were forced into an early change after defender Connor Pengelly was injured 13 minutes into the match.

Under-18s player Freddie Jarman replaced him at right-back, with Harry Chetland moving into central defence.

Liskeard were awarded a penalty midway through the first half after a challenge by Vernon on a home striker.

However, Vernon saved Jack Crago’s spot kick to keep the scores level.

Wellington almost responded at once, with Lewis Oaten forcing Liskeard goalkeeper Ollie Chenoweth into a save.

The hosts took the lead five minutes later when George Marris collected a long ball over the top and shot past Vernon.

Liskeard doubled their advantage two minutes later.

A move down the left ended with the ball being played across the penalty area, where Crago finished into the top corner.

After the break, pressure from the home side paid off in the 52nd minute.

A ball pulled across the box found Kai Gilbert, who drove his effort into the net.

The Tangerine continued to defend, but Liskeard scored again after 65 minutes.

Lewis first made a goal-line clearance, but the loose ball fell to Lorenz, who fired home.

The game finished 4-0 in favour of the Cornish hosts.
