SOMERSET’S director of cricket Brian Rose believes the side can still win in the Pro40 Division One, despite another indifferent start to a one-day competition.

Monday’s defeat against Middlesex at Lord’s (see above) means the Cidermen have lost two of their opening three games.

Somerset have five Pro40 games left, with the next four all at the County Ground starting on Sunday, when they take on Nottinghamshire (1.45pm).

Rose said: “In a league situation it is imperative you get off to a good start but, again, we find ourselves fighting to get two or three wins under our belts, which is a situation we have been in as a one-day side over the last two or three years.

“However, we are still pretty confident and we now have four home games on the trot to play, which will suit our players who enjoy playing in front of their own crowd.

“If we can win our home games we certainly still have a very good chance.”
