MINEHEAD FC’s committee have voted unanimously to remain in the Western League.

At Monday’s open meeting, committee members opted to withdraw the club’s resignation from the league.

After a passionate debate, chairman Brian Walder announced the news along with a plea to end the negativity surrounding the club.

He said: “The decision has been made and from this point onwards it is important that we move forward positively.

“This subject has been debated long and hard, and we must now look to the future and not the past.

“Negativity has seen this club in a downward spiral for far too many years and as chairman the buck stops with me.

“There are more than enough good players around to maintain Western League football.

“If we end up in the bottom two then we have to pray there is no relegation this season and draw the line firmly underneath everything that has happened in the past, and look positively towards a bright future.”

In December, Minehead applied for the option of withdrawing from the league following a number of years struggling at the foot of the Division One table.

With the league looking to boost the division up to 22 teams, they appear unlikely to relegate any sides – Minehead are currently eight points adrift at the bottom.

That effectively gave Minehead the choice of being relegated or not Minehead are looking to emphasise their fresh start by appointing a new first team manager before the end of the season.

Two weeks ago, club stalwart Adrian Giblett announced his decision to stand down as boss.

MINEHEAD continue their Toolstation League Division One programme with two matches in the next week. On Saturday, they are home to Westbury United and, next Wednesday, they travel to play Elmore.

After those, Minehead have two games left to play.
