A HEARTBROKEN crowd at the County Ground watched Somerset narrowly miss out on the Pro40 League title this afternoon.

Somerset needed to beat County Championship winners Durham after Pro40 leaders Sussex lost to Worcestershire by 49 runs.

The Cidermen made 242-7 but a blistering start by Durham in reply left Somerset with too much to do.

The match went to the wire with the winning runs struck with two balls to spare meaning Durham won by two wickets, handing the league title to Sussex. Somerset finish in second place.

The match was the last at the County Ground for Somerset captain Justin Langer, who is leaving the club at the end of the season.

His last task is to guide the club in the Twenty20 Champions League in India next month.

Somerset also lost the Twenty20 Cup final to Sussex at Edgbaston.
