BISHOPS Lydeard Reserves moved into the third round of the Taunton Saturday League’s KO Cup after a quite incredible penalty shoot-out at home to Dulverton Town.

The scores were level at 1-1 after extra-time and the sides scored a remarkable 28 consecutive spot kicks before a Dulverton player finally missed. It was then left to Dom Rowe to score and send the hosts through.

The British record for number of penalties in a shoot-out set in August 2005, when 40 were needed to separate Tunbridge Wells and Littlehampton Town in the FA Cup. However, the record for consecutive penalties scored does not appear to be documented.

In normal time, Andy Clarke was on target for Lydeard while Steve Hadley netted for Dulverton.

Bridgwater Sports defeated in-form Predators 4-3 with goals from Adam Wall, Craig McGann, Matt Penwell and Matt Fursland. Lee Oparowski (2) and Ryan Weston replied for Predators.

Highbridge Town, who have a 100% league record, went down 2-0 to Cannington Colts with Robbie Fearn (pen) and Wayne Barry on target.

Middlezoy Rovers knocked out Taverners 4-2 thanks to goals from Dan Luce, Max Cushing, Steve Hall and Luke Manley. Tom and Mark Wadham scored for the home side.

Sampford Blues beat Hulan 4-0 with two goals from Steve Conway and one each from Matt Holmes and Rob Mellows.

Adam Sparks scored the only goals of the game for Porlock who beat Nether Stowey.

White Hart Rangers saw off Bridgwater Sports Reserves 5-2 with Aaron Stallabass (2), James Osborne (2) and Tim Dyke on the scoresheet. Lee Blewett and Matt Blackmore replied for Sports. In the only Division One game to be played, Russell Nightingale hit a hat-trick for Staplegrove in a 3-2 win against Locomotives. Matty Pounde got both Loco goals against his old side.

Civil Service missed the chance of going level on points with Predators at the top of Division Two as they were held 1-1 by Westonzoyland. Luke Stevens netted for Civil and Dan Wilkes for ’Zoy.

Wembdon won 4-3 at Minehead Reserves thanks to a 25-yard rocket with two minutes to go from Dan Bingham. Marv Portlock, Ben Cheffey and Sam Puddy scored the first three, with Will Giblett, Lee Todd and Matt Cracknell on target for Minehead.

A last-minute goal denied Staplegrove Reserves a first win of the season as their Watchet counterparts hit back for a 3-3 draw. Keith Cooper, Justin Plaw and Simon Morton were ’Grove’s scorers, while Adam Jeffries, Warren Jones and Gary Trunks struck for Watchet. In Division Three, North Petherton defeated previously unbeaten Appletree 4-2 with goals from Craig Wright and Mark Mantyk. Mark Kmita and Simon Waugh responded for Appletree.

Bridgwater Sports Colts were toppled from the head of the table following a 4-3 defeat at Middlezoy Rovers Reserves.

Redgate had a 5-1 victory over bottom side Alcombe Rovers Reserves while Spaxton’s Luke Miller scored the only goal of the game to give his side victory over Highbridge Town Reserves.

Wembdon Saints and Old Inn All Stars shared the points in a 2-2 draw, Shaun Smith and Rob Chidgey netting for Stars.

In Division Four, Porlock Reserves remain top following a 4-0 home win over Stogursey – Adam Langdon and Lee Hardick hit two each – and Hamilton Hawks secured a 7-1 win at home to Bridgwater Grasshoppers, Graham Fitt (2), Kris Sangster (2), Rob Chambers and two own goals making up their tally.

The family of Dulverton Town Reserves player Dan Whiston – tragically killed in a work incident last week – were at the side’s game against at home to Staplegrove Colts. And they provided a fitting tribute to Dan, winning 7-0 with goals from Damien Syrett (3), Craig Ruston (2), Matt Zillwood and Lewis Hough.

Norton Fitzwarren Reserves beat their North Petherton counterparts 6-1 with the day’s leading marksman Kev Smith netting four. Joe Jones added one and Pethy gifted an own goal.
