SHEPHERDS Wednesday needed extra-time to overcome lower-division Ash Rangers 3-2 in the second round of the Keyline Taunton Sunday League Gardner Cup at the weekend.

The sides were level at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes and, after the sides had exchanged goals in extra-time, Nick Woon scored his second of the game to send Shepherds through. Mark Brereton netted their other goal with dave Richardson scoring twice for Ash.

Result of the day went to PQR who thumped fellow Division One side Gardeners 10-1. The prolific Luke Desave helped himself to five goals, Spyridon Siakoufis got two with Gareth Nation, Lloyd Alley, and Jules Beck completing the rout.

Barleycelona Blues were the round’s highest scorers, defeating Eagle Tavern 12-2 with goals from John Matthews (3), Steve Trevelyan (2), Ashley Gaines (2), Aaron Warren (2), Richard Taylor, Matt Holmes and Chris May. Albert Hughes and Dean Collins were on target for Eagle.

Westford Rangers gained a good 4-0 win at Black Horse with Rod Marsh, Dean Yard, Anthony Date and an own goal on the scoresheet.

Spartans eased through as expected against fourth division Churchinford. Ryan Vickery (3), Alexis Piper, Nick Crowford and Stuart Kennard got the goals in a 6-1 win, while Dan Pettejohn scored for Churchinford.

Creech and North Curry had walkovers as their opponents failed to raise a team. In the outstanding first round game, Holway beat Piston Broke 4-1.

In the day’s only Keyline Cup tie, Staplegrove travelled to Watchet and won 5-2, with Jack Bowen-Porter (2), Ash White (2) and Eubio do Rosario getting the goals.

In Division One, Bathpool’s inconsistent season took a turn for the better as they beat Tone Youth 4-3. James Weaver led the way with two goals with Shaun Smith and Jordan Mein scoring one each.

In Division Two, Spaxton got their first win as they beat Westgate Wanderers 3-0 with strikes from Scott Watts, Luke Miller and Peter Richards.

In Division Three, Top Guns recorded a resounding 13-1 win over nine-man Somerset Inn. Ryan Bradford (4), Chris Sangster (2), Michael Cropper (2), Simon Livy (2), Josh Cross, Adam Brown, and Matt Gregg were on target.

Leaders Cotford Saints beat Ash Rangers Reserves 3-2 thanks to efforts from Dan Groody, Connor McCallister and Dan Williams. Ron Polley and Jason Upshall netted for Ash. Wyndham Arms won 2-1 at home to The Grove with Nigel Jeffries and Carl Sturman on target. Michael Griffins got The Grove’s lone strike.

In Division Four, leaders Carhampton slammed ten past local rivals Williton Rockets, who replied with three. Ross Cornish had a great day hitting five goals, Kieren Roberts and Peter Baker both bagged a brace and Robert Lovell got one.

York House are hitting some good form, and notched their third straight win at the expense of Harlem Athletic, Ashley Jackson, James Browning, Mark Jesson and Tom McCarthey scored their goals in the 4-2 win. Roberto Fraschini and Duncan Stone responded for Harlem.
