MANAGER Paul West hailed Saturday’s victory over Gosport Borough as the best of Taunton Town’s recent resurgence.

The Peacocks defeated play-off chasing Gosport 1-0 at Wordsworth Drive to make it three Zamaretto League Division One (S&W) wins in a row after a run of 24 matches without a success.

West believes the change in fortunes is partly down to a more solid defence, which has let in just one goal in those three matches.

West said: “That win was the best of the three.

“I thought they were the best side we have played this season and, although they had plenty of possession, Lloyd Irish (Town’s keeper) hardly had a save to make.

“We have gone to three centre backs and we are looking a lot more solid.

“Before, we struggled with balls into our box, but we deal with them a lot better now.

“Against Gosport, Chris McGrath and Dan Short were excellent and Tim Legg came in for his debut and was superb.

“It also helps having wing-backs with great engines like James Clough and Darren Rice have.”

However, West says there is still plenty of room for improvement.

He said: “It’s still only a start. There are still plenty of things we can do better and there will always be things I want to improve on.

“But as long as we keep doing the basics right, which we are now doing, we won’t go far wrong.”

Taunton play their first away game for three weeks on Saturday when they travel to play Uxbridge. Next Thursday, Taunton are away to Bishops Cleeve.
