Division 1 South and West: Uxbridge 2, Taunton Town 4.

TAUNTON Town’s dramatic turnaround in form continued as they proved too strong for mid-table Uxbridge on Saturday.

It was Taunton’s fourth straight victory after a run of 24 games without a win and their first victory away from home since defeating Cinderford in August.

Alexis Piper netted twice to make it four goals in his last three games, while Craig Veal, who has three in three, and substitute Luke Cole were also on target for Taunton, who had led 3-0.

The visitors, full of confidence on the back of their previous three results, looked to attack from the start, although Uxbridge went closest in the first 20 minutes with Max Howell and Lee Tunnell having efforts cleared off the line.

However, Taunton took a deserved lead after 25 minutes when Alexis Piper headed in a cross from Rodney Marsh.

Ubridge hit back in search of an equaliser but the closest they came was when left-back Dave Thomas’s cross hit the top of the bar.

And Taunton extended their lead ten minutes into the second priod when Craig Veal was upended in the area by Adrian Dinham and picked himself up to score from the spot.

Town’s Lloyd Irish made a sharp save to maintain his side’s lead and they took advantage by adding a third on 71 minutes when Piper lifted an excellent effort over Matt Brurton after the hosts’ keeper had saved his initial effort.

However, Uxbridge were not finished and they brought the scores back to 3-2 with a double from substitute Tommy Howe, who netted on 77 and 85 minutes.

But that was as close as they got to a point as Taunton wrapped up victory two minutes from time when Cole, who had been on just two minutes, netted from the edge of the box after an error from Burton.
