Tribute Somerset Premier Avon 20, Minehead 19 MINEHEAD went down at Avon on Saturday as they failed to make the most of the conditions in the first half when they had the wind at their backs.
Minehead soon found themselves 3-0 down and that became 10-0 soon after. Kiwi fly half Jarrod Nyssen reduced the deficit with a penalty but the Babas were then reduced to 14 men when Ross Cox was sin-binned.
Minehead played pragmatically for the next ten minutes as they kicked to the corners and used the wind to gain territorial advantage. This approach paid off as Nyssen added two more penalties to turn around trailing 10-9.
In the second half Avon pulled way again though, a penalty and a converted try making it 20-9.
Minehead still had plenty of fight in them though and scored another Nyssen penalty and a try through Jack Claydon after taking a scrum against the head.
Nyssen’s conversion took Minehead within one point but their late assault on the Avon line came up short and they had to settle for a losing bonus point.
