Wellington Reserves got the least they deserved in the Devon and Exeter League, Division One yesterday when they drew 2-2 at home to Witheridge Reserves.
Wellington bossed the first half but paid the price for only being 1-0 up at the break after some shaky second half play.
Any they only secured a point late on through Sam Bryant who shone in midfield for the side for the second week running.
Witheridge had slammed five past Wellington back in September and were considered one of the favourites for honours although it has not quite worked out that way.
Wellington played down the hill in the first half and Luke Webber caused Witheridge all manner of issues with his pace and good delivery.
James Rowley and Mark Owen again did so well for Wellington at full back and delivered plenty of good balls to Nathan Thomas, Webber and Oli Nott and the work rate and pace offered gave the visitors all manner of problems.
Webber got the first goal for Wellington when he hit a low shot past the Witheridge keeper and it was just reward for the Tangerines second string and their efforts.
However everything went wrong for Wellington in the second half.
They conceded an own goal after losing possession on the half-way line.
Then a handball was spotted in the box soon after and the penalty was slotted home for 2-1.
Wellington did come back strongly, but could not get the equaliser until the handball error was reciprocated by Witheridge and Bryant slammed home a spot kick for the equaliser.
Wellington stay sixth with three to go and now have two weeks off before their last home game of the season at home to high-flying Feniton on Easter Saturday (April 7) at 3pm.
Away trips to bottom side Beacon Knights and Cullompton Rangers will conclude what has been a more than acceptable season following relegation last year.
