HEATHFIELD Community School Under-16s sevens side competed in both local and national tournaments over the spring term.
They entertained Blundells School, Millfield School and King’s School in warm-up games and gave an excellent account of themselves in the Southwest Sevens.
In a tough group, they narrowly lost to Taunton School (the eventual winners) and King Edwards, while defeating QEH Bristol and Brynston School .
Rosslyn Park was an even closer affair, with a last-second try meaning defeat against Pangbourne School, a draw against Llanharth Grammar and a defeat by a point to Loughbrough Grammar.
Even after such a heartbreaking first three games, they beat Berkhampstead Grammar in their final game and amassed a positive points total, although only won just one game .
Joel Conlon, a former student , also gained a contract with Exeter Chiefs and represented England at Under- 18s level.
The team were undefeated in the 2012 season and won the European Championship in Spain, defeating Wales and Ireland on the way to the crown.
