INTERNATIONAL football star Emily Syme went off to the Under-17s Euros with the best wishes of her team mates at Richard Huish College.

Syme, a former Castle School student, first played for Somerset Juniors at the age of eight, competed in her first international against Holland at age 14 and this year has travelled to Italy to compete as part of the England Under-16s team against Italy, Iran and Mexico.

She is currently playing in midfield for the England Lionesses in the UEFA Women’s European Under-17s Championships.

On Tuesday, Syme scored two goals in a landslide victory against the home side Lithuania and now faces Slovenia and Russia in their group matches.

She is a member of Bristol City WFC first team and had to balance her football training alongside maintaining top grades at Richard Huish.

While undertaking studies in A Level Psychology, Further Maths and Economics, Syme was encouraged to try out for both the boys’ and girls’ squads and gained selection into both first teams.

Syme said: “I like training with the boys but it’s annoying I can play in matches against adult women’s teams but not against youth boys teams.

“However, that’s the way it is.”

She praised Huish for their flexibility and support and looks set to prosper both on and off the field.
