THE girls from King’s College have just returned after a highly successful and enjoyable ten-day football tour to North America.

After arriving in New York, the tour party travelled to Philadelphia where they played their first match against Penn Fusion Academy, winning 3-0.

The girls then spent two nights with host families and a day at West Town School, where they were beaten 2-0 by a very strong side - play-off finalists, unbeaten in 14 games.

In additional to the educational experiences, the girls went to watch the Philadelphia Flyers play ice hockey and also to an MLS football match.

They then played two further matches against academy sides, STA FC drawing 1-1 and SDAFC winning 3-1.

The tour party also spent time at Villanova and West Chester Universities, where they had the chance to take part in a Question and Answer session with the head football coaches and players, gathering valuable information on life in a US university.

The King’s party rounded off their tour with time in New York where they visited the cultural sites and enjoyed a cycle ride in Central Park.

Chris Heayns, Director of Football, said: “This trip allowed the girls to get a flavour of North America and how football is played in a different country.

“They got the chance to experience life in an American home and also in school, as well as playing football and visiting two North American universities with whom we are developing links.

“The girls have made some good friends and hopefully we will be hosting reciprocal visits in 2017."
