Western League Premier Division: Shepton Mallet 4-2 Bridgwater United

Bridgwater United suffered their first defeat of the league season as they went down to Somerset rivals Shepton Mallet on Tuesday (September 8) night.

The Robins went into the game with a four-point lead at the top of the Western League Premier Division and were looking to build on their unbeaten start to the season.

Manager Dave Pearse made three changes from the side that beat Saltash United with Douglas Camilo, Michael Duffy and Jake Llewellyn coming in for Shea Mannings, Jason Quick and Dave Thorne.

The home side took the lead on 23 minutes when Harry Warwick won possession inside the Bridgwater box before finishing calmly.

The Robins pushed for an equaliser before half time, but Shepton Mallet led at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Harry Warwick got his second of the game after taking advantage of a loose ball in the box.

Bridgwater pulled a goal back on 67 minutes and equalised with nine minutes to go.

But Connor Williams put Shepton Mallet back in front on 83 minutes before re-establishing their two-goal advantage three minutes later.

Bridgwater United remain top of the league, despite the result, three points clear of St Blazey who have two games in hand.
