MINEHEAD will be looking to get back to winning ways in the premier division of the Somerset league tomorrow when they visit Yatton Athletic.

Having lost their last two games, admittedly against two of the top sides, they will be looking to get back to winning ways to stay in touch with the leading pack.

Captain Matt Cracknell returns to the squad from honeymoon, but the injured and unavailable list is still quite long.

Last Saturday the Blues lost 2-0 at table-topping Shirehampton.

They started brightly enough, taking the game to their hosts in the opening stages.

The first moment of anxiety for the home side was an early in-swinging corner from George Sinnott which needed a desperate punch from the keeper from just under the cross-bar.

Sinnott was heavily involved in the next Minehead attack, when he swiftly intercepted a dangerous pass from midfield and launched himself down the slope towards the Shire half.

A slick 1-2 with Damion Redman saw the full-back take the return pass in his stride and his dangerous centre was fizzing just too much for Guy Burns to control and convert.

After several more corners had been forced it was against the run of play that the home side took the lead on around the 20 minute mark with virtually their first expedition into the Minehead box.

The goal understandably spurred the leaders on and Minehead were forced to defend, with the balance now swinging to the home side.

Early in the second period a Guy Burns snapshot almost caught the keeper out, but it was that man Bamford, so often the difference between these two sides in the past, who doubled the home side’s advantage when he cleverly lobbed the ball over a defender and slotted it home past the helpless Wilkins.

With half an hour still to play, and with many of the blues’ heads dropping, it was Wilkins who kept Minehead in the game for the next period with a series of top drawer saves, denying the home strikers repeatedly.

The introduction of substitutes Luke Webber and Aaron Deeks saw the Blues fight back, and though it would have been a fortunate recovery, Minehead went close to scoring on two occasions.

Minehead: Kyran Wilkins, Luke Freeman, George Sinnott, Rob Gurnett, Lee Nunn, Mike Graddon, Simon Lyons, Damion Redman, Guy Burns, Ashley Morgan. Subs: Aaron Deeks (11,68), Luke Webber (9,77) David Hodgson (3,86).
