A slow start to the second half then allowed the hosts to score twice more.

Vale bossed the last 20 minutes and Liam Pigeon scored from Martin Johnson’s pass.

TAUNTON Civil Service Men’s 1sts sustained a 10-0 defeat to early league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett in GoCrea8 Central 2.

In fact, their performance was a step up from the previous week’s, and they did create chances themselves.

It was a hard-working performance against a likely promotion candidate, and they will hope to beat North Wilts, who have also lost their first two, this weekend.

Civil Service A lost out at Chard B, being 4-1 down at the interval. They improved in the second half and took the game to Chard, but were always chasing the game and lost 6-3.

Sedgemoor 1
Minehead Ladies 1sts 6, Winscombe 2nds 0

MINEHEAD Ladies 1st XI enjoyed a convincing win in their league match on Saturday.

They played some impressive hockey and got off to a flying start with an early goal, created by Denise Lancaster with a cross past the Winscombe keeper for Zoey Cape to finish.

It was Lancaster who added a second as Winscombe were restricted by Mel White, Emily Bland, Libby Chambers, Di Hobbs and Jo Elliott in midfield.

Minehead then made it 3-0 when Cape hit the post and Lancaster followed up the rebound and it was Cape who added the fourth before half-time.

The second half got off to another quick start for Minehead, as White found herself at the top of the Winscombe circle, turned and slotted the ball to Cape, who completed her hat-trick.

The away team had a few breaks to test the Minehead defence in the second period, but Weetch in goal and Carol Matravers, Hazel Binding, Sue Garwood and Tracey Bailey were able to deal with these.

The scoring was rounded off by Hannah Sparks, who produced a delightful flick over the oncoming goalkeeper to make the score 6-0.

The ‘Julian’s Laundry’ player of the match was Zoey Cape.

Winscombe Ladies 4ths 1, Minehead Ladies 2nds 2

MINEHEAD continued their run of away wins at Winscombe as they emerged victorious from this closely-fought encounter.

With end-to-end play from the outset, it was Minehead who took the lead, as mid-fielder Izzy Fitzgerald crossed to Amelia Swallow who pushed the ball through to Wendy Daughtrey, who scored.

Winscombe came back with a barrage of attacks but defenders Jess Koppa, Sophie Osler and Kaylyn Porter were equal to the challenge.

Midfielders Liz Darby, Briony Smith, Maya Leyworthy, Kelsey Howard and Fitzgerald had their work cut out, too, as the ball turned over quickly.
Despite several near-misses at both ends, the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half consisted of the same frenetic pace and Minehead doubled their lead when a move between Wallace and Swallow led to Daughtrey firing home.

Minehead conceded a goal and the final 10 minutes were very tense but the defence held firm.

Minehead’s ‘Julian’s Laundry’ player of the match was Jess Koppa.
