THE weather continued to cause problems for the Saturday league this week and another six games went unplayed as a result of waterlogged pitches.

Division 1 leaders Porlock opened up a four point lead at the top of the table and have a game in hand after their 2-0 win over local rivals Alcombe Rovers. Craig Carr and Jack Paige were on target for them. West Somerset’s other Division 1 side, Dulverton Town, shared the points at Highbridge Town as Kev Watts and Lee Hooper got on the score sheet in a 1-1 draw.

Civil Service stay top of Division 2 despite the postponment of their game as second placed North Petherton also didn’t play.

A win for Sampford Blues would have put them second but they could only manage a draw with Westonzoyland at home. Dan Woodgate and Chris Wells scored the goals in a 1-1 draw. Wyvern Rangers’ 5-2 win over Appletree saw them climb a few places in the table. Matt Buswell and Aaron Stallabrass hit the net twice and Jamie Girton added the fifth for Rangers whil Sandy Patel and Ben Hayes responded for Appletree.

Williton returned to West Somerset with three points in the bag after their 1-0 win at Bridgwater Sports Colts in Division 3. Matt Lovell got onto the end of a cracking pass from Nathan Sheehan to score the only goal of the game.

The only Taunton side in action in the division was Old Inn Allstars and they probably wished they hadn’t been after they went down 2-0 at home to Sydenham Rangers. Steve Addicott and Jason Stephenson got the goals.

Hamilton Hawks maintained their 100 percent record at league leaders Bishops Lydeard Colts with a 2-0 win but still haven’t overhauled their opponents in the table.

Rob Chambers and Andrew Lawton scored the goals that gave Hawks the win but they remain second, four points off top but with six games in hand. Second placed Alcombe Rovers Reserves also dropped points in a 5-4 defeat to Exmoor Rangers, who have found some form since Christmas.

Damian Redman and Jimmy Baker both got a brace for Rangers with Sean Kendal adding their fifth goal while Daniel James scored two and Kieran Bailey and Ryan Wilkins one each for Alcombe. Milverton Rangers came flying out of the traps against Staplegrove Colts and dominated the early parts of the game as they built the foundations for a 4-1 win. Pete Chapman got a pair and Ed French and Ross Sweeney added one each for the West Somerset men while Martin Adams got the consolation goal for Staplegrove.

The biggest score of the day anywhere in the league came at Rhode Lane Wanderers where the hosts beat Dulverton Town Reserves 9-0. Ash Glover and Ben and Craig Patrick scored two each while Dan Saunders, Lois Baker and Luke Baker also chipped in with goals.

There were only two games played in Division 5 and after they were done and dusted it was a case of ‘as you were’ in the league table.

Galmington Dragons beat Halcon United 7-3. The prolific Senna Clapp continued to score goals in a struggling team as he hit a hat-trick for Halcon that took him to 19 goals in all competitions this season. Galmington don’t have a prolific striker to rely on on a weekly basis but John Mumby did the business for them this week as his four goals provided the foundations for their win. Dave Chambers, Jake Evans and Josh Fish added the other goals.

Sampford Blues Reserves beat North Petherton Reserves 4-2 in the final game of the day. Tom Scarlett hit two for the Blues and Ed Murray and Warren Toth added the other goals while Jason Mantyk and Josh Gracie scored the Pethy goals.
