TAUNTON Deane Water Polo ladies played Newton Abbot in the semi-final of the Devon Knockout Cup last week.

Newton Abbot are one of the top teams in the South West, but the Taunton ladies did not disappoint, as Paige Kearns and Amelia Foster topped the scoring with three goals apiece, with Hannah Taylor scoring two.

Tash Broad, Keziah Gill-Stevens, Sarah Nicholls and Emi Williams also got on the scorecard, while Broad was the major queen as, by the fourth quarter, had committed three major fouls, meaning she could not take part in the rest of the game.

Newton Abbot dominated the start, which was unsurprising given most of their squad had just won the National Junior Championship.

They raced into a 7-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, but as Taunton Deane began to get their positional play and passing right, the goals started coming, and the second quarter score was 6-3, with Gracie Allan making some spectacular saves in goal.

Taunton Deane got better and better with Newton Abbot only just winning the fourth quarter, 8-6.

The final score of 28-12 flattered Newton Abbot but the Taunton team should hold their heads up high.
