WIVELISCOMBE 1st XV’s home fixture against Minehead was called off on Saturday morning after a pitch inspection determined both grounds unplayable.

With the present and future forecast predicting more rain, it could be a while before the Recreation in particular is fit for play, but this weekend they are away to Old Redcliffians 2nds.

Wellington’s 1st XV saw their scheduled home match against Plymouth Argaum called off.

This weekend, Welly travel to Plymstock Albion Oaks.

Somerset 1
Morganians 20, Wellington 2nds 11

WITH both teams keen to play, the referee was happy to oblige despite wet conditions.

Gavin Hancock and Jordan Mein scored in the first 10 minutes for Morgs, Mein converting both, but Wellington were able to ease their way up the pitch, where some quick ball and a missed tackle saw their centre bustle over.

The conversion fell short as a gust pushed the ball back towards the kicker.

The final score of the half came for the visitors, when they opted to kick at goal when awarded a penalty on the 22m line to make it 14-8.

Morgs soon extended that lead to 20-8, but Wellington then enjoyed their best spell of the game and were able to close the gap when they converted a penalty.

The last 10 minutes were an increasingly physical affair, but scoreless - credit to both sides for providing an entertaining game of rugby in tricky conditions.

Somerset 2 South
Yeovil 2nds 18, Wiveliscombe 2nds 12

WIVEY’S 2nd XV secured a hard-earned losing bonus point from their Somerset 2 South match at Yeovil.

The wet conditions made it difficult to play an expansive game, but both teams tried making it a worthwhile 80 minutes.

The points for the visitors came from tries for Callum Merritt and George Rowe, who also added a conversion.

Wivey 2nds host third-bottom Bridgwater & Albion 3rds on Saturday.
