Somerset 1: Wiveliscombe 47, Yatton II 10

WIVELISCOMBE secured their ninth league victory of the season with a comfortable victory over Yatton on Saturday.

There was little to choose between the two teams at half time with Wivey leading 14-3.

Yatton were actually first to score points with an early penalty from George Osbourne after Wivey failed to secure the ball from the kick off.

Flanker Graham Broom and fly half James Escott scored Wivey’s two first half tries with Gareth Bellamy converting both.

Wivey gradually gained the upper hand in the second period of play going on to score five more tries.

Scrum half Simon Ellicott led the way with a brace of tries while vice captain Tom Chaffey also crossed for two tries. Winger Grant Davey completed the try count with a try of his own.

Bellamy missed just one of the five second half conversions.

Wellington based official Matt Parsons refereed the game very well and looks set to do well in the coming years with a career in the game beckoning.

WIVEY always had the edge in this game, especially when they moved the ball wide.

The home side, playing up the slope in the first half, led 7-0 at halftime with a try from winger Kieron Hale which was converted by Ewen Burdekin Tripp.

Wivey went on to score four second half tries through Callum Melrose, who got two, Rory Davies and Richard Wyke with Burdekin-Tripp converting three.
