WIVELISCOMBE lost 15-5 to Castle Carey in the Tribute Somerset 1 league.

Wivey, who had to make four changes late on, never looked settled in their play and found the home pack a handful on a wet pitch.

Carey were first to score 30 minutes into the first half when outside half Dan Clay ran to score on a blindside break.

Wivey were struggling to find any continuity but a solo effort from fly half Dan Twoose from half way brought Wivey level.

Wivey had the better of the second period - playing down the slope - but could not pierce a stubborn home defence.

With 15 minutes to go they had a golden chance to take the lead when Carey were penalised near their posts.

The kick for three points was turned down in favour of an attempt to cross the home try line which failed.

Carey on the other hand did not take the same option with five minutes of the game remaining when Wivey were penalised in front of their posts.

Carwyn Jones slotted the ball through the posts to put the home side 8-5 up.

Wivey were now playing catch-up rugby, desperate to take a share of the points.

It was therefore no great surprise when a loose pass was intercepted by centre Jim Weston to score a converted try.
