A SKETCHBOOK of Somerset showcasing Taunton scenes is currently strewn across the walls of the Creative Innovation Centre in Paul Street.
Artist Stella Murray Whatley learned her craft at London Colleges, inspired by the Italian approach to art.
Later, having moved newlywed to the county in 1968, Somerset’s diversity and the ‘everyday’ grabbed her.
Stella said: “I’ve always been really inspired by the county and I think Taunton’s gorgeous.
“You’ve got everything for an artist: the sea, the moors, the villages, the buildings … everything you could wish for.
“I’m a bit greedy when it comes to subject matter you see!”
Stella’s sketchbook captures the sanctity of solitude versus the buzz of society.
Bridgwater Infirmary in indigo, apricot and earth is like a warm ghost from history.
