AN impressive smorgasbord of Taunton entertainers will join none other than 1980s pop star Howard Jones for two Brewhouse shows this April.
Dubbed Tone Talent – The Mayor’s Variety Show, the objective, says Taunton Deane Mayor Libby Lisgo, right, is to showcase the skills our county town has to offer while drumming up cash for charity.
The causes? The Brewhouse Theatre, of course, is set to benefit, along with Libby’s chosen charities – The Alzheimer’s Society and the North Taunton Partnership, which runs the Priorswood Community Centre.
Libby told the County Gazette: “This event is about trying to find a way to support the re-opening of the Brewhouse.
“What has also really struck me over the year as Mayor is just how much talent there is in our local communities and how there didn’t seem to be a way this talent was ever brought together.
“This is the idea with the variety show.”
Classically trained pianist Howard Jones, who lives locally and continues to tour, famously performed at Live Aid in 1985, while his debut album, Human Lib, topped the UK charts.
Joining him on the bill are the legendary Rivertones Chorus, electronic band Filta, comedienne LauraLexx, Taunton School, Taunton Academy, The Space, Castle School and the Big Noise Street Band.
And that’s just for starters.
The line-up will perform twice at Taunton’s newly opened Brewhouse on Saturday April 26, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children for the 2.30pm matinee, and £10 for all at 7.30pm.
Book online at www.kubesix.com or pick up tickets from Taunton’s Ticket and Information Centre in Paul Street or Mr Miles Tearooms.
