DID you know some of ITV’s Des was filmed in Somerset?

The three part drama stars David Tennant who plays Scottish serial killer Dennis ‘Des’ Nilsen, who confessed to murdering up to 16 men over several years in London.

The show broke record ratings for ITV with the first episode being watched by an audience of 5.4million people.

And scenes in this hit show were filmed at Shepton Mallet Prison.

The production crew were in Somerset for a week in January – and the staff at the prison were happy to work alongside them.

“It was a delight having the production crew here for a week,” said Charlie Lawson, site manager at Shepton Mallet Prison.

“They were all a pleasure to work with and didn’t complain although the prison was very cold!

“David Tenant was really friendly and much taller than I expected.

"We have some great photos from their time here and will be showcasing the cell where ‘Dennis Nilsen’ was incarcerated for future visitors.”
