MARMALADE makers at a farm shop near Taunton are celebrating after winning silver at The World's Original Marmalade Awards in Cumbria.

Staff from the jam kitchen at the Rumwell Farm Shop were awarded a silver award for their Glorious Grapefruit & Lemon Marmalade.

Anne Mitchell, co-Owner of the farm shop: “We’re ecstatic that we have been given a prestigious Silver Award for our homemade Glorious Grapefruit & Lemon Marmalade.

"We were also commended for our Orange & Brandy Marmalade and for our Chunky Cottage Marmalade.

“There were about 3,000 entries from as far afield as South Africa, Korea and Singapore so it’s fantastic that our marmalades stood out and we were delighted to be given a Silver Award.

“Our Glorious Grapefruit & Lemon Marmalade was created using an old family recipe from Liz Brown, our jam kitchen manager.

"The recipe was tweaked slightly and then produced by hand by Liz and her team in small batches.

"We would like to thank Liz for the time and effort she put into creating the award-winning marmalade.”

It was the 11th anniversary of the Dalemain Marmalade Awards & Festival, which was held at Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens near Penrith on March 19 and 20.

The World’s Original Marmalade Awards at the festival set a standard which is recognised internationally.

Every jar entered receives a judges’ tasting card with comments and a certificate.

The marmalades are judged on appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour.

The Jam Kitchen at Rumwell produces a range of 50 products including jams, chutneys and marmalades all made using fruit and vegetables from the shop.

Jane Hasell-McCosh, awards and festival organiser, said: “We would like to congratulate Rumwell Farm Shop on its Silver Award.

"The standard of the competition this year was outstanding and we’re delighted that the awards continue to grow each year.”
