WINE enthusiasts, or people who just enjoy a tipple with their evening meal, can head to 19 Lower Middle Street, Taunton, and peruse the wares at PM Wine Cellars, the town’s independent wine merchant.

Proprietor, sommelier-turned-retailer Philippe Messy, spent his youth honing his skills at Marco Pierre White’s and Oliver Peyton’s restaurants.

He also found time to work vintages from Burgundy to South Australia.

Philippe has a laid-back demeanour but is passionate about wine and always ready to offer friendly advice – what to buy for a celebratory dinner, which wine to pair with scallops or even a wine that won’t make the drinker sneeze.

The shop stocks wines from more than 15 countries, at prices ranging from £6, and for clients searching for specific wines, the team enjoys the challenge of sourcing it.

Bespoke wine-tasting events and other services can also be arranged.
