A WIDE choice of accounting software is available to small businesses.
Choosing the right software will save you time and money, and provide you with useful management information to run your business.
Rob Cadwallader, of B.J. Dixon Walsh, offers some pointers for choosing the right package.
*Look at the volume of transactions you expect to process in a month. Sole traders processing a handful of sales and purchase invoices should find a free solution is fine.
*Consider who will use the package – administrative staff or a trained book-keeper. Many packages now are designed to be used by non-accountants.
*Work out what add-ons you need – for example, payroll, stock management system, integration with your bank account.
*Consider what information you want from your system and how you want it to be available. For instance, do you want to see it any time, anywhere, on your mobile?
