SMALL businesses from across Somerset were taught that the “fortune is in the follow-up” at their latest networking event.

The Taunton branch of the Federation of Small Businesses’ latest event was held at monks Yard in Ilminster.

John Holden, vice-chairman of the FSB’s Taunton and District branch was the event’s guest speaker.

He said: “Another packed evening business networking with the Taunton Federation of Small Business was held at the Monks yard, Ilminster.

“Many local business were given the opportunity to promote their business at the Networking Event run by the Federation of Small Business. Word of mouth still remains the most powerful way to generate business.

“When you meet someone face to face you can establish great relationships and understand the persons business, the principals of know, like and trust are the best known way of creating opportunities to either find services to help your business grow, or find opportunity to do business.”

John’s talk, the fortune is in the follow-up, went through his top ten tips to help business owners get the most out of attending networking events.

These included showing a genuine interest in people, knowing your target market, preparing your proposition, and always following up contacts.

“The Taunton FSB Branch are having a phenomenal take up of attendees at the networking events for both non-members and members,” John added.

“Start-up businesses are emerging and looking to find support, skills and new business through the Federation of Small Business membership.

“The Taunton FSB Branch aim to provide Networking events throughout Somerset Taunton, Bridgwater, Ilminster and Minehead.”
