WEST Buckland explorer Dom Mee is ahead of schedule by a week to beat an Atlantic rowing record east to west.
Dom and his team, Tom Rendell, Pete Bird and Ed James, are currently on target to smash the record but were held back at La Palma for longer than expected.
The previous record was set in 1992 by La Mondial, who took 35 days and eight hours to complete the crossing, using eight oarsmen and a large vessel.
Dom said: "All is well on board and we are pleased with our progress but this is a marathon not a sprint and we are keeping plenty in the tank for the days ahead of us. We would like to thank our friends, family and supporters for all their good luck messages, they really do make a
difference."
