WEST Buckland explorer Dom Mee has failed in his attempt to break the world record for rowing across the Atlantic.
Dom Mee and his three teammates Ed James, Pete Bird and Tom Rendell, were aiming to beat the record French time of 35 days and eight hours, which was set in 1992 by an eight-man squad.
However, they were due to finish by this morning (Tuesday) just 24-hours late.
The team set off from the Canary Islands on January 14 and have rowed almost 3,000 miles since then.
However, strong winds have hampered their efforts throughout the journey and they have failed to take the overall record.
The team are now focusing on becoming the fastest four-man team to row across the Atlantic.
