SOMERSET Army Cadet Force picked up the two top prizes at the demanding Nijmegen Four-Day March, in Holland.

They followed a proud tradition of being judged best international cadet force team three times in the past four years - they failed to win last year after the event was cancelled.

The group decided to enter two teams this year after past successes had generated so much interest.

Among those taking part were Heather Upham and Ben Appleby, from the Wellington Platoon.

While recovering from their exertions, the Somerset youngsters discovered at the prize giving that the B team came first, with the A team runners up.

Major Peter Vile for the cadet force said: "This amazing result gained from cadet force teams from all over the UK, Europe and as far away as Australia will ensure that interest in the event as well as in the cadet force is kept at a high level for some time to come."

Anyone aged 12 to 18 can join the Somerset Army Cadet Force - phone Major Andrew Horsey on 01823-284486 for further details.
