Dairy Cattle (107): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report “large entries bring extra buyers”. The massive weekly entry of 107 dairy cows and heifers, which included 99 inmilk, being the largest entry of 2016 so far. The first 40 through the ring were all calved heifers and the best quality created considerable interest when 17 sold over £1700, 6 over £1800 and 3 over £1900 to £1930 x2 and £1870 for pedigree and non pedigree heifers from Mr HR Lewis of Carmarthen. Other pedigree heifers to £1920 and £1800 from Mr DE Pyle, Exeter. £1880 for a Dowervale bred heifer from Mr Searle, Axminster. Mr S Cheacker of Bristol saw his heifer realise £1860. Others to £1800 x2 for Messrs CRJ & JA Bishop and Mr R Webb; £1790 from Messrs GJ Searle & Sons; £1780 for Mr DR Evans, Carmarthen and £1760 from Mr AP Ractliffe, Gloucester.

Only a sprinkling of first quality cows to £1700 and £1230 from Messrs PH Creed & Son, Glastonbury. The dispersal for Mr JE Bennion of Ledbury, Herefordshire saw cows to £1200. Mr DR Glanfield’s Shorthorn cross 2nd calvers sold to £1170 and £1160 and their Jersey realised £1040.

Ram Lambs sold as store lambs are to be declared. Those lots so declared to not contain any ram lambs, which are found post sale to contain undeclared ram lambs, will attract a 25% reduction in the sale price of any ram lambs found.

Grazing Ewes & Rams (1210): Another large entry of 1210 grazing ewes and rams sold to a continuing strong trade, although a high proportion of hill ewes pegged the averages considerably. Donkey (1): The star of the sales today was a 1 year old uncastrated Jack donkey, which sold to a huge crowd of bidders and realised £340.
